Embracing the Amateur Spirit

I recently read Austin Kleon's "Show Your Work!". It was an excellent motivation to help me begin writing at the beginning of this year. Here are some reflections tied to some of my highlights of the book.

The Power of Sharing and Finding My Voice

At the core of Kleon's message is the importance of sharing your work with the world, making it findable and accessible to others. As I started writing, I discovered that talking about the things I love allowed me to develop my unique voice and connect with like-minded individuals.

Kleon emphasizes the significance of learning and sharing something new each day. Through this approach, I've managed to fill gaps in my knowledge and skills while, hopefully, offering relevant insights to all who are reading these. By consistently sharing my work, regardless of its form, I've maintained a steady stream of content, although not yet engagement.

Embracing Imperfection and Striking a Balance

Throughout my writing experience, I've realized that not every post has to be perfect. Sharing imperfect and unfinished work opened the door to invaluable feedback and unexpected discoveries. I've learned to balance sharing my work openly while maintaining a sense of privacy, which has helped me grow as a writer.

Building a Name and Sharing Influences

As I reach my 90th post, I understand the importance of building a good name and sharing my influences. By being open and honest about my passions, I've connected with people who appreciate my work and share similar interests.

If you are in a similar place, I encourage you to start writing and sharing without many filters. Don't worry about the audience initially; write and find your voice. Hopefully, later, things will fall into place.
