Los Tigres del Norte: A Successful Enterprise

Los Tigres del Norte is not only a successful band but also a well-run enterprise. The band has been active for over 50 years, and throughout that time, they have managed to maintain their popularity while continuing to innovate and grow. That kind of longevity doesn't come easy in any business or personal relationship, let alone a music band. It can only result from a very determined group of individuals who set and enforce clear rules. I saw some things that have made them successful from my time meeting them.

Limits - Differentiating Work and Pleasure

The band has set up certain months of the year as vacation time with their family and other times for recording music. By doing so, they can maintain a healthy work-life balance, allowing them to be more productive when working. It sets a clear boundary between which time is dedicated to whom and must be respected as such.

Discipline - Routines and Diets

I learned they have very well-known schedules for what has to happen and when from planning each show to writing and recording their music. They are also disciplined in their sleep habit, which is especially hard as they sometimes work well into the next day. Their discipline also extends to their diet, as they understand the importance of eating well to maintain their health and energy levels. They also have a policy of not drinking alcohol while on tour, which helps them to keep a clear head and perform at their best.

Attitude - The customer comes first

They understand their success is mainly due to their fans, and they go out of their way to show appreciation. They dedicate a lot of attention to their fans, whether it's by signing autographs, taking photos, or simply talking with them. They also have a great attitude towards their work, always striving to improve and innovate.

Delight - Going the Extra Mile

They always look for ways to improve their craft. They are not afraid to take risks and try new things. Their performance at Folsom Prison or MTV Unplugged is a great example. They also put a lot of effort into their performances, ensuring they give their fans the best possible experience.

As entrepreneurs and business people, we can learn from Los Tigres del Norte's example and apply these principles to our businesses. They are a great example that "doing things right, consistently... for a long time" will bring outstanding results. And by going the extra mile for our customers and prioritizing their needs, we can build a loyal customer base that will help us grow and thrive in the long run.
