The Benefits of Writing for Personal Growth
It took me ten years to write my first ten blog posts. It only took me 50 days to write my next 50. I had accumulated ideas and thoughts I wanted to share and write about but never got around to writing. So, I changed my approach.
🐰 The change: Start a Streak.
🎯 The goal: Write and publish something daily without much filter or thought about the audience.
🖱️ Deliverable: Just hit publish.
The initial goal was to achieve a 10-day streak. After reaching this milestone, I became motivated to continue. Streaks have a strong influence. With proper structuring, they can assist in forming a habit that can change your life.
I used to believe that my ideas required much time to be written down. However, I had to use the scattered notes I had left everywhere to maintain my writing streak. Over time, I had written down ideas in various places, such as Notion, Apple Notes, emails, post-its, and text messages. As a result, I started a scavenger hunt for those old ideas.
I had always wanted to share my fantastic experience with Los Tigres del Norte, but I only had some introductory notes.
I'm a big fan of my wife and want others to know how talented she is. I want to showcase the hard work that working mothers do every day.
I recorded my feelings after running a marathon but never found the time to sit down and write about them.
I've found that telling stories with personal reflection is a way to achieve the simple goal of sharing. Regardless of the time of day, once I start writing, I can get into a flow and generate more ideas. It doesn't have to be perfect; it just needs to be published.
I've come to realize that writing has many intangible benefits beyond just expressing one's thoughts:
👄 It helps you articulate your thoughts more clearly.
🧘♀️ It forces you to reflect on experiences that might otherwise be forgotten.
🟰 It makes you more likely to follow your own advice.
💪 It gives you confidence.
Writing is to the brain what running is to the body - it's a much-needed exercise.
The more you do it, the more fit you become.
The more fit you become, the more confident you grow.
Daily writing can be a powerful tool for personal growth and development. By committing to a streak, you can build a writing habit that enhances your ability to articulate your thoughts, reflect on your experiences, and gain confidence in your ideas.
